Are there any samples of firearms designed just before 1905 that have the “WP” about the receiver and barrel Along with the “Oval P” on the barrel? If that is so, This is able to signify a mail order barrel remaining mounted via the Winchester restore shop.

With regard to the “VP” within an oval around the underside of the barrel, I have found it on all models, starting Along with the Product 1873 (I haven't looked for it to the Model 1866, but my wager is that it also was marked with the “VP”). Winchester (inside their catalogs) describes the process for that “VP” evidence mark as follows:

For barrels & receivers produced right after 1905: Receivers getting the “WP” proof but no “WP” or “Oval P” evidence within the barrel would suggest the barrel was changed outside of Winchester employing a pre-1905 barrel.
